Writing Happy Mail & Creating Our Recycle Centers!
This week, our Red Stars worked on two projects. The first was learning about Happy Mail, an ongoing card writing campaign we will be taking on in support of Newton at Home. Throughout the year, students will be sending cheerful cards to older residents (over age 60) in Newton in collaboration with Newton at Home.
The main part of the work today was around making sure we are recycling the right way at Service Stars. Our Red Stars helped to create colorful and informative signs for each of our collection bins in our classrooms. We will be keeping plastic film and old art supplies out of the trash by making use of local special recycling programs for those items. And we reviewed some best practices for keeping our Single Stream Recycling in good shape.
Questions for your students to ask you (test your knowledge this time!):
1) True or false: you cannot recycle a pizza box if it has grease in it.
2) True or false: you may bag your recycling in a paper bag.
